aThe entire public areas of this hotel resort on Hainan Island are open to the elements utilising the traditional wooden screens I found across South East Asia when researching my book on wooden architecture.
I photographed the opening of this the first Chedi hotel in China. The Chedi sits within a green bamboo forest upon a hot spring tucked away in the hills between Ninghai and Ningbo a few hours drive south of Shanghai. I have photographed a number of resorts in this part of China and this is particularly bucolic and peaceful.
